Can I get massage and acupuncture together?

Yes! The two modalities in a combined treatment can be extremely beneficial. Talk to your acupuncture provider to see if this would be indicated for you.

Do the needles hurt?

Generally acupuncture needles are painless due to them being comparable to the diameter of a human hair. The needles are thin, sterile & single use. They are solid with a round tip that gently parts the tissues without damaging them.

How long is a session?

Initial acupuncture session will be approximately 1 hour in length. Subsequent treatments will be either 30 minutes or 45 minutes. Your acupuncture provider might recommend getting a combined treatment with both acupuncture & massage.

How soon does acupuncture work?

In most cases, a positive response is seen quite early, sometimes in the first session. Every treatment plan will vary from 1 session a week to 2-3 a week. Simple pain problems require anywhere from 3-8 treatments  and chronic conditions 6-10 treaments. Sticking to the treatment plan will achieve the most optimal results.

What is contemporary acupuncture?

It involves the insertion of very thin needles over carefully selected areas of the body where nerves and their receptors are found. This stimulates numerous responses in the central nervous system, that are of benefit for many conditions. These needles will be stimulated manually or with electricity for the therapeutic purpsose of modulating abnormal activity of the nervous system.

What is electro-acupuncture?

Electro-acupuncture involves the passing of a pulsed current through the body tissues via acupuncture needles for therapeutic value. It can facilitate the release of specific neurochemicals eleciting physiological effects.

What makes contemporary acupuncture different?

We design your acupuncture treatments based on a thorough evaluation of your neurofunction. We select specific goals based on the most important physiological functions in need of regulation, using precise peripheral nerve stimulations sites to best promote these therapeutic responses.

How long of a massage should I book in for?

The length of a massage therapy appointment depends on what the focus of the treatment is.

If it is your first time for a massage treatment, we do recommend you book in for a one-hour treatment – this allows the RMT enough time to conduct a needs assessment and a treatment plan. Subsequent massage treatments may require more or less time but the therapist will consult with you and offer recommendations after each session.

Currently, we provide 30 min, 45 min, 60 min, 75 min, or 90 min massage therapy treatments.
